Exhibition Graphics - Scanning |

Scanning
The key or starting point for
many of the most effective graphics is the quality of the image
or photo that was used to create them. The higher the quality the
image the easier it is to increase the size of the image with little
degradation. Original images that have to be digitized by a scanner
are only as good as the scanner that has reproduced them and if
they are themselves not that good then they will need to be worked
on to provide a high enough resolution.
We
suggest that in the case of photographs you have a digital
picture taken, as close to the target as possible with no
zoom on. Use the highest mega-pixel camera you can find. Fill
the viewfinder and make sure it is well focused. These images
can be saved in their raw form and we can easily crop and
blow up to reproduce the required size.
If you have an original
photo or photo-montage of good quality then we can scan this
for you at a high enough resolution to allow successful resizing
to a much larger output.

However it is possible to scan
things at too high a resolution making the image difficult and impractical
to work on. If you choose to scan the image yourself then there
are some tips to make things easier for you.
- You must first work out the
enlargement ratio from the original to be scanned to the final
finished print size that you require. For example will it be merely
6 times bigger or as much as 21 times the size??
- Take the ratio you have and
now multiply it by 75
- The result is the minimum
dpi that you must scan the image at to achieve an increase in
size without the loss of quality
